Landscape Tunnel Zines

Continuing to explore the wonderful world of zines, artist Gemma Dunnell guided us through the creation of our own landscape tunnel zines during May’s Online Art Group session. Blending drawing, storytelling, and sculpture, the workshop explored ways to capture a sense of journey, place and movement through layered 3D imagery.

Working from our own reference photographs, we separated images into fore, middle and backgrounds before rebuilding them into immersive layered scenes. Each section became a template for the next, creating drawings full of depth, atmosphere, and perspective.

The session encouraged us to think about composition, contrast, and texture, while experimenting playfully with colour and materials. Surprisingly simple to make, the process reminded us that drawing does not need to perfectly recreate an image, but can instead become an expressive and imaginative response to what we see.
