This is a drawing I did in my garden. There are lots of plants from last year which have died and I ought to cut them back, but I love the contrast of the colours and structures against the new green Spring leaves that are coming up.

The Artist Paul Klee said “a line is a dot that went for a walk”. I love this because it means my pencil can just go for a wander all over the paper and it doesn’t have to look exactly like what I’m drawing. Also I like to not look very much at the drawing but to look at what I’m drawing, and at the end I’m often surprised that I’ve captured something of that essence!
