Spring has sprung, and with the sunshine pouring in through our windows we’ve been starting a new adventure over in the Online Art group with artist Gemma Dunnell.
At-home printmaking can often seem daunting or unachievable, but with her wonderful sense of joyful play, Gemma has been introducing us to a few simple techniques we can integrate into our creative lives.

As a printmaker herself, Gemma began by sharing her passion for lino printmaking, and demystifying any concerns we might have had about ability or accessibility. While we were focusing on technique and composition, the overarching theme of this session was really getting to grips with a new form of mark making, and understanding potential new textures and finishes.
We then moved on to monotype printing: the process of drawing onto an inked up surface to create line based designs, and experimented by adding elements like coloured or textured tissue paper to add variation and colour. The result was a whole new range of sketches, drawings and marks with finishes and textures that we can now take away and integrate into our individual creative practices.
Every year, April marks Stress Awareness Month, a campaign to help increase awareness of the causes and cures of stress. Driven by The Stress Management Society, this year’s theme is Lead with Love, encouraging everyone to approach themselves and others with respect and kindness, no matter the challenges we face. Taking time for ourselves through sessions like the Online Art Group, can provide the perfect opportunity to step away from our daily lives and stresses, and instead promote mindfulness and relaxation through creativity.
Join us for more at-home printmaking with Gemma Dunnell and the Online Art Group!
16 April Session 3: Monotype printing – wipeaway printing. This technique has been used by artists such as Degas to create these ethereal and moody images and landscapes.
07 May Session 4: Tetrapak Etching Printmaking
For this final session, we will be using tetra pak as a material for making our relief prints. This printmaking technique is inspired by traditional etching printmaking
