We are pleased to introduce Alison Jacobs who will be leading Online Art Group sessions in April and May.
Painting and Drawing Landscape with Alison Jacobs – appreciating the outside world from the comfort of your home.
In all four sessions Alison will demonstrate in a variety of paints: watercolour, gouache and acrylic on paper. You can use whichever paint you prefer. Any kind of brushes can be used but Alison will advise on specific brushes which help with particular techniques. Palettes can be makeshift, artists palettes are not necessary. Sessions will start with simple beginners’ techniques and will build up in complexity through out the hour.
Themes for the next 4 sessions:
1. Window Art – your window to the world
2. Seascape and Landscape
3. The Somerset Landscape
4. Inspired by Turner
Preparation for the first session – Window Art
We cant always paint outside from life, but we can paint the view out of our window. It might be getting dark when we do this session so it might be advisable to take a photo of your favourite window first. Lots of decisions to be made! Do you want one frame or a many framed window? Do you have a simple window or do the window accessories become part of the composition?
Alison will show you some examples of different types of views through windows by famous artists to whet your appetite. How do you tackle your subject do you start a very detailed study to learn about your environment or do you simplify and abstract to convey a mood or to capture the feeling of a moment in time that interests you.
This is a great warm-up subject and can follow on nicely from Sara’s still lives with flowers, students can even have a vase of their favourite flowers on the window sill to link in from the last lesson.
